Lab 1: Get Access

The purpose of this lab is to get you ready for subsequent assignments. 

Introduction
In this class you will use Wireshark (duh!). So download it here. Wireshark runs on Windows, Mac and Linux. You will also use Cabrillo's Opus server.

Opus Access
Your password is derived from your name and your student ID. Here's how to figure out your username and password:
  • lll = first 3 letters of your last name (lowercase)
  • fff = first 3 letters of your first name (lowercase)
  • Ff = first 2 letters of your first name (first letter uppercase)
  • Ll = first 2 letters of your last name (first letter uppercase)
  • nnnn = last 4 digits of your student ID
  • ccc = The course number (with no letters)
Your username is:
  • lllfffccc
Your password is:
  • FfLlnnnn
Here's an example:
  • Michael Matera (student ID 12345678)
  • Class: CIS-140NA
  • Username: matmic140
  • Password: MiMa5678

Capture Packets with Wireshark
Once you have Wireshark installed start it and capture packets. Take a screenshot of a packet capture and answer the following questions:
  1. What is the IP address of your machine?
  2. What is the MAC address of your default gateway? 
Turn In
  1. A screenshot of you logged in to Opus
  2. A screenshot of your packet capture
  3. Answers to the questions
